A veteran of the equine industry, Debra Jarvis’ initial involvement with horses occurred at a young age. “My interest started in my childhood years, I became involved in 4-H and it was there I became interested in judging. I was active in judging team competitions as a teen.” Continuing her interest, she has been judging horses for 45 years and has had her APHA card since 1978. She is also an approved judge for the PtHA, ApHC, PHBA, NSBA, POAC, and AMHA associations. Jarvis has officiated multiple times at the World Championship Shows for each of the associations in which she holds judges’ cards. In addition she has officiated at the Australian Appaloosa Regional Championships and the Danish Paint Horse Championships.
In past years as a trainer, instructor, and exhibitor she guided numerous Youth and Amateur exhibitors to their Championships. In the open circuit thirty plus Paint Horses were shown to their APHA Championships as well as taking several horses to World and Congress Championship Titles.
Involved in the breeding of Paint Horses through 2012 Deb has had a marked influence on the Hunter Division of Paint Horses through the stallion Red Charisma and his son I Got Charisma. “I regard my judging career as an opportunity to make a contribution to the equine industry.” “I am very committed to being fair, honest, and conscientious in my decision making process. I believe as judges, we have a duty to be as knowledgeable as possible and to apply that knowledge to the best of our ability as we have a direct influence on the general direction of the show horse.”
Debra resides in Kaufman, Texas and enjoys traveling across the United States as well as to other countries.
